Bare Root Strawberry Plants
12 plants for $20
These plants are June Bearing. I do not know the variety, they have been passed down from farmer to farmer for a long time in this valley. Mine grow knee high and produce berries that are between 1-2 inches across.
Plants come bare root, which means they are in a bag with no soil. If you buy them and are not ready to plant them, simply add to a bucket with some potting soil and keep lightly damp.
You plants will be ready for pick up at Plowgirl Farm in Creston, MT in April. I will email you in April to arrange pick up times.
Strawberry Planting and Growing Instructions
I plant strawberries 12 inches apart in rows of 3. They will send out runners plants and eventually fill in an entire area. I plant mine in landscape fabric that has holes burned into it every 12 inches, but they grow over all of it and fill it in. You can simply cut off a runner, dig it up and replant it where you want it.
Strawberries grow best in slightly acidic soil (6.5), I added 6 inches of compost and a sprinkle of an organic fertilizer to the soil and then each spring I sprinkle the plants with blood meal. I water them with my garden. They get 2-3 inches of water a week.
