November

If I am honest, November is one of my least favorite months of the year. A big part of this, for me, is the lack of light and color outside. I love being outside so much and having a job outside is incredibly satisfying for me. When all the jobs are wrapped up I almost feel a sense of loss… like I still wish I had a reason to be out working in the weather.

Chopping firewood helps, and I still need to clean the chimney, and continue to pick up new fallen leaves to add to the garden, but it’s not the same amount of time and I miss it! I guess I am just not that farmer who is excited to sit by the fire and read the rest of the winter. I would rather be outside.

So I layer up and head out to continue to explore the woods and fields with my dogs and family. There is always beauty to find, and the first snows to be excited about.

But the thing I am most excited about is February and the return of light and the making of plans for another round of growing and constant outside time.

And, I will enjoy my tea by the fire and my lovely girls snuggling up to me while we read. For the next few months I will enjoy time indoors, as much as I can…
